Tribal guarachero came back, and this time it brought a compilation
N.A.A.F.I. put out a twenty-track compilation and a genre that got written off as a novelty fifteen years ago is having a second, more serious life.
N.A.A.F.I., the Mexico City label co-founded by Tomás Davo and Alberto Bustamante, released TRIBAL 2025, a twenty-track compilation the label bills as "both a tribute and a reinvention of Mexican tribal" and "a space for experimentation, identity and the global reach of Mexican electronic music".
Around it: Debit, Rosa Pistola, DJ Mouse, Alan Rosales, and 3BallMTY touring a reunited original lineup. Rosa Pistola's Incorregible arrived in April 2026, conceived and produced by Laura Puentes, and the Bandcamp copy sets the tone: "El sonido de Incorregible cruza fronteras y se resiste a ser domesticado: indomable, feroz, incorregible."
The context is harsher than the music. The city's "La Noche es de Todos" enforcement operation logged 885 suspensions, 172 closures and 113 clandestine parties dismantled across 2025.
A sourcing note: a widely repeated Tomás Davo line about tribal becoming a novelty and disappearing is real, but it is a re-quote from an older uncited source, not a fresh interview. We have left it out of the body for that reason.
