Nate Mercereau’s Fantastic Thoughts is loud, busy and almost relentlessly upbeat in the best way. Bandcamp made it an Album of the Day, noting Mercereau’s L.A. post‑jazz ties and the album’s palette of zither, electric mandolin, synths, guitar and more.
The record wears its prog and fusion nods openly—Yes, King Crimson, Metheny—while letting drum‑and‑bass skitter and electronic colorations crop up. Carlos Niño and Deantoni Parks show up on percussion; the arrangements pile up ideas without turning into mere display.
